I didn't know about your store until I was at the Austin Music Hall when Bob Schneider played a benefit there last week. At the end of the show he threw out his guitar pick and I caught it. On the pick it said "South Austin Music". So, here I am. I am a native Texan, originally from Houston, but just moved here from southern California. I am loving Austin and Bob Schneider!

Hi Everyone --
I realized I never added a hello of my own to the guestbook, so hi!!!
I'm still being asked if I work at the store and it's been almost 2 years to the day!
I miss Billy and all the guys at the store, but I had to spend more time doing music, actin', and creating. I still do all my business with Bill and I wouldn't send anyone anywhere else!
Anyone wanting to get in touch with me is welcome to, but I don't do guitar work anymore and anything I have for sale is already at SAM!!!
It would still be great to hear from whoever wants to say hi...
Thanks Billy for 5 great years, Love,

Hey Bill!
I bought and sold amps, guitars and other various things in your store back in the late 80's when I used to live in Austin-just a few blocks from your location. (I was the guy in the white rusty 280Z) Sam was just a puppy and you were about the only guy I ever saw work there. It's great to see that you have grown the store and have made it a success! I always felt welcome there - even when I wasn't buying or selling anything.
Good luck and continued success! I'll stop in and visit the next time I'm back in Austin.

Hey Sam, I've visited your store many times while in town for a gig or a visit. Usually, I've only been able to buy picks and strings and drool over yr fine wares. But, this coming visit to SxSW I may be able to purchase an amp. In the past, I've noticed and dreamed of walking away with an old (mid 70s) Marshall 2x12 Combo with a master volume. Still have something like that around? And what would it cost to ship an item like that back to NYC? Thanx so much.

My friend recommended Takamine and Jasmine and Yamaha as good brands for a starter guitar for a student.
Would you agree? Is the price range I'm looking at between $150 and $250 and I was advised?
Would you have some good stuff to show me? If so I'd love to stop in. Have a GREAT DAY!

Hey Guys,
Was refered to your site from the Reverend Guitar site. I play bass for The Benny Brasket Band and I am always looking for new cool gear. My current rig is a Sunn 1200s amp with an Ampeg svt410HLF cab. I am more than pleased with my Fender P-bass, but I am interested in the Reverend basses because of the look and most important the light weight and tone. But before I buy one I'll have to find someone with one in stock so I can hold it and check out the feel. None of the music stores in Houston stock them.
I have family in Austin so, next time I'm there I'll stop by. Do you normally have the Reverend basses in stock? If so, I will bring cash and maybe I'll find "the right one".
Thank...See Ya!

NEWS: On May 10th, Austin Texas bluesman LIGHTNING RED underwent a 3
1/2-hour surgical procedure to repair a major heart valve (Mitral Valve
Prolapse). The innovative technique performed at the Heart Hospital of Austin was a
huge success and he will be resting comfortably at home through June 2000.
Red wishes to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers, kind
words and support. - the folks at Heroic
___________________________________________________________________
Hello to my fans and friends all over the world,
You've probably heard that I just had heart surgery. Friends who are helping
me out sent out a news releases to friends, fans and industry folks to inform
them of the situation.
The 3 1/2 hour procedure was suggested by my doctors to repair a worsening
heart condition called Mitro Valve Prolapse. Luckily, we have some of the
best cardiac surgeons in the world at the Heart Hospital of Austin, and they
were able to repair the valve rather than replace it using a
recently-developed technique.
Previously the only solution would have been an artificial valve and I'd have
been required to use dangerous, expensive blood thinners for the rest of my
life..
Even though I didn't show any of the obvious symptoms of this condition, 30 %
percent of my blood was flowing in the wrong direction with each hearbteat,
and it was getting harder and harder to get through that fourth hour of
nightclub performing and those grueling concerts.
Luckily, the pre-op procedure showed my arteries and cardiac blood vessels to
be in excellent condition without any signs of heart disease, and my blood
pressure has stabilized. Everyone tells me I'm going to have a lot more
energy now, and I'm now looking forward to those extended international tours
and all-night writing recording sessions.
We've been performing a CD's-worth of original tunes for enthusiastic
audiences for over a year now and hope go into the studio for our next
project this summer. There's been great response from the previous Lightning
Red CDs and we've connected with new group of marketing/distribution and
management folks just recently. The award
-winning site is about to undergo a major upgrade and ya'll can always go
there to find where we're performing, recent articles/reviews, and the latest
news.
The San Antonio Blues Society is hosting an all-day benefit concert for me on
June 25th at the original Billie Blues location, and I've truly been
overwhelmed by the amount of support and concern that's pouring in from all
over the world. One never knows how their music is touching people until
something like this comes along.
Bestblues to you all,
RED

hi harvey--
thanks for your letter, here's a little info.
we don't have any commandos in stock, but we can custom order you one for the in-stock
price.
commandos list for $879 + $109 for the hardshell case. your price would be $XXX plus
shipping to lake charles (usually around $20). since we'd be shipping out of state, you
wouldn't have to pay sales tax, either. drop by the reverend website to choose your color
and any other options (some options are an additional charge) and let me know how i can
help.
and it seems like you're right in step with the boss, we'll have a section for in-stock
gear within a couple of weeks. maybe you're not so lazy after all....
thanks,

into a PC - like MIDI connection? I'm hoping to make some kind of industrial folk music
with a friend who needs MIDI to program in my songs to his Yamaha QY700 whiz box! Be even
better if I could get the PC to write out the bars and notes. Q2. What amps do you suggest
for acoustic guitar - around 50 Watt for studio stuff? i'm looking at Trace Elliot 50 at
the mo. Thanx again guys for your help Regards Luke

Hi Lukas-- Glad you made it back okay, sorry about the tax
problems, and if anyone can send or drop by current exportation rates and
policies, we would greatly appreciate it. We'll be looking in the meantime. As
far as MIDI for acoustic guitar, we could make suggestions, but I believe you'll find more
real world experience and advice in newsgroups. Now for acoustic amps!!! For
recording such a great sounding guitar as your Tacoma,
we recommend a good mike aimed at the end of the fingerboard about 2-3" away (good
advice from Danny Barnes - who's done this a time
or two). Usually amps are best left for live performances where there's so much
bleed and volume that a mic is impractical. Trace amps are very popular and they
sound good although we've seen several with internal problems -- just be careful and buy
with some sort of warranty. For tracking demo or basic tracks in a home studio, your
internal pickup run straight into the recorder usually works just fine and is pretty
hassle-free. If you're trying to create some new and different sounds in the studio,
don't bother with our advice -- EXPERIMENT!!!!! Either way have a great time!!
I want to keep the Rockman. Let me know how much I need to send you. Thanks. BT
